I am the Meandering River Dawning

I am the Meandering River Dawning
Medium: Oil
Base: Canvas
Year: 2015
Mostly taken from memory from one of our drives into the countryside for a day trip, this scene has been modified tonally and details altered to create an interesting and atmospheric painting themed around the Yarra River in the Dandenong Ranges in Victoria.
The aim with this painting was to produce a peaceful setting that highlights the rural and natural bushland features of the Yarra Valley. Often one is only divided from the other by the river, and wildlife frequently crosses the shallows to visit the pastures in the farms that are located throughout the area.
The painting was near completion when I realised that it didn't look quite balanced, so after some consideration, and consultation, I added the lone cow on the right hand side to complement the stand of gums on the left. After she was included, and a few birds flying in the background were added at a later stage, the whole painting worked compositionally, and I declared it completed and ready for a new home.
