About Janice Mills - Australian Fine Artist
After displaying a natural artistic talent from an early age and never obtaining less than an "A" or distinction in art classes, Janice went on to study at Chisholm TAFE in the late '70s. She has been a Graphic Designer/Artist for over thirty years for publishing, display advertising, newspaper, real estate, printing, web site design and sign companies.
Because of lack of studio space the graphics area has taken up most of her time but with the building of a new studio, she has finally returned to her first love.
Workshops and classes to regain skills have boosted the long term plans for Janice to get commercial quality paintings on display in exhibitions. Special thanks need to go to David Chen and Glenn Hoyle in particular for their encouragement to Janice in her endeavours. She is always on the lookout for exceptional mentors and teachers to help her refine her talent.
As she is always looking to broaden her horizons and tackle new mediums it is anticipated that her output in the future will only grow and become more diverse and interesting. From the small range of only painting in oils, in the past 5 years Janice has successfully challenged herself with the mediums of acrylics, water colour and pastel. She is now taking on line drawing and washes in inks. She was privileged to have a class from a master of this discipline in China so can call on the tips he passed on to her.
The subjects of her art works have also grown from mostly equine portraiture and landscapes, taking on canine and feline portraiture, seascapes, still life, human portraits and her version of abstracts which has all helped attract new clients. It is her belief that if she stays "fresh" it will reflect in her artwork and her clients will always be interested in what new project she may be working on or exhibiting. One of her favourite phrases is "I don't want to be a one trick pony".
Janice has been the recipient of many awards at various guilds, societies and shows.
Janice is the solo artist at Moody's Cafe in Pearcedale and Oceanic Cafe in Frankston, both of which are in Victoria, Australia. She is exhibiting regularly at various venues within Victoria, Australia with the invitations to enter events increasing each year. All artworks exhibited are for sale and EFTPOS facilities are available for direct purchases from the artist.
Janice does animal portraiture by commission. These include beloved canine pets as well as cats and of course horses. For these she works in oils, acrylics and pastels. She can arrange to modify existing photos or take some new ones for your new portrait. There is a contact page in this website for any enquiries
