Medium: Pastel
Base: Paper
Year: 2010
Third of a set of pastels on dark blue pastel paper from photographs taken by Janice Mills of the shoreline along the ocean near Flinders and Cape Schanck Victoria, Australia. With the amount of photos taken on the day it is hoped that they will foster a new set of seascapes in the future, maybe in a different medium to show off different aspect of this dramatic coastline in Victoria.
This pastel painting is taken from a larger photo which has been cropped for dramatic effect in Photoshop. The colour saturation has been altered to bring out the blues and greens in the waves.
This scene was a little more complicated than the first two of the series as it has so much movement and power. It has water spreading in different directions and waves merging into each other which I have never tried before.
Vivid jade greens blending into the darker blues in the water, loads of movement in the waves and not overworking the pastels is something that I have been working on as well as getting the spray from the waves looking right, so if the viewer feels like they can nearly hear the waves hitting the shore or smell the salty spray from the water, I will have done my job properly.
