Acrylic portrait painting on board of journalist Matt Preston derived from several sources and combined into the one artwork. |

A subject that I have avoided for most of my career has been human portraits. I always considered that I was either not interested or just not really good at them, preferring to point all my attention to animals and traditional landscapes and seascapes. |
|
Since I have decided that 2010 is the year that I must put my full effort into seeing how far I can push myself with my fine art and give it my best shot, I feel I must address all the subjects that I have so far avoided to make sure that I am a more fully rounded artist and not just a "one trick pony". |

Finding inspirational subject matter is the next challenge. I started with someone that I knew very well, being my husband. I then moved on to family members. Recently I was asked by a client if I would consider doing a portrait of her daughter and new son-in-law on their wedding day later this year. I now have a deadline to work to. |

I needed to find a subject that I did not know too well at all. Then within a few days I saw several pics of Matt. His face looked so interesting, that lovely mane of black hair with blues eyes and the cheeky expression behind them were all too irresistible! |

This painting is the result. There are still areas that I need to improve on and this work was a big learning experience, but I feel I came out of it better than when I started. I hope others will enjoy looking at this new venture for me as much as I enjoyed painting it. |
