Original oil and acrylic painting on canvas completed in a single sitting. The subject is loosely based on the atmosphere of an outback sunrise in Central Australia. The square representation of the sun is done is metallic paint applied very thickly for a bit more of a stand out effect. |

As a fine artist it pays to get completely out of your comfort zone occasionally to try something different. That is a theme which I hope has become evident with the variety of works on display in my web site. |
Sometimes ideas need to be worked on, at other times they seem to just come to you as if whispered in your ear. The theme of this painting is one of those times when a complete idea comes into my head and it seems like all I have to do is quickly sketch it so I remember the idea and then paint it. |
The simple theme here is representing the outback soil with the large area of orange, the sliver of light from the rising sun across the horizon with the line of yellow line and the slowly lightening sky with the blend of light purple through to dark blue. The oil paint in the orange section has been painted over a layer of acrylic which has lots of texture incorporated. When examined closely a hint of a track running into the distance and bumps in the landscape are evident. |
I had originally intended to do the sun as a half circle, but decided that anything close to realism was not what I was aiming for. The square "sun" with the metallic paint then came to mind, which is far more representational and in keeping with what I was trying to achieve. |
The resulting oil painting is an outback theme, the colours and the texture are the landscape, the story is completely up to each viewer to interpret. |
