Kakadu Dreaming

Kakadu Dreaming
Medium: Oil
Year: 2008
Kakadu Dreaming is another painting taken from the photographs kindly offered for my use by Stephanie Cox. It is from the Kakadu National Park in Northern Queensland, Australia. The vivid colours are an instant attraction to the scene. Underlying this, however and probably more importantly, comes the serenity of the scene. There is an air of calm coming from this painting similar to my other painting, Kakadu Wetlands.
My experience of painting the first scene from these wetlands was very enjoyable. When I saw the photograph this painting is based on, I was compelled to do a new work based on it. Both artworks have had very good comments from colleagues. They have noted that I am enjoying my adventure into a change of style and subject matter. It is so pleasant to have such a feeling of peace and relaxation when producing a painting. My hope is that these wonderful feelings have come out in the final work for others to experience as they look at it.
