Cloud

Cloud
Medium: Oil & acrylic
Base: Canvas
Year: 2008
Second place - monthly qualifier of McClelland Guild Artists, "Artist of the Year" competition (July, 2008).
Cloud is based on a photograph by Stephen Welker taken of some of the beautiful cloud formations that occur in the Autumn in Pearcedale, Victoria, Australia. Whilst in the middle of the exacting work of a commission to paint Diamond Jim I was worried that I was getting a little too "tight". To help keep my painting style loose I decided to do something a little different just for myself.
The idea came whilst looking at 2 other paintings that I have now placed on exhibit together. They are Heart of Fire and Kakadu Wetlands. I decided that they needed a third painting of something to do with air.
It turned out to be a good idea. The painting came out well, my style has only improved, it has been well received by viewers and a lovely surprise was that it came second at McClelland Artists Guild for the month of July 2008.
Dimensions (metric): 61 cm (width) × 61 cm (height)
