I was never going to paint race horses. So many people do them, and much better than I do. Fate had other ideas. |

An idea came into my head somewhere along the line this year and it would not leave me alone. Eventually I caved in and began work on this oil painting. It was very enjoyable to do. I love painting horses anyway, but this lively scene has movement and drama. It was a new challenge to try to capture that. Certain details of the scene have been altered. The stand in the background has now only one level and the number of horses have been reduced. |

I presented this work at the yearly assessment day at McClelland Guild of Artists. Glenn Hoyle, whose skill at horses I so admire, was the judge. He gave me invaluable insight and information to make this work even better. I also had help from Gary at Above the Mantle when choosing a frame to complement the painting. |

I think I will try another racing painting in the future. I do not want to make it a main theme to my works, but it is fun to do just for my own pleasure now and then. |
