The horse I call Lonesome Guy (because I don't know his real name) was standing with his head over the fence when I was able to get several fine shots of him. After deleting the background and deleting the fence, I was able to concentrate on his gentle face. He was also given a haircut, and colours in his coat that the sun was reflecting have been highlighted. |

Lonesome, as I call him, is owned by a neighbour and she has him in a paddock near the road, so I get to say hello to him a lot. He is a big old thoroughbred and I think he was competing in show until not long ago. I always admired his action, smooth and fluid like he was floating above the ground and who could resist that face! |

I gave a print of this pastel to the neighbour directly across the road from Lonesome, because he looks so much like a horse she recently owned. She had just experienced a bad week and needed cheering up, so I left it in her mail box as a surprise. I caught up with her recently, she claims that she loves it so much, she is getting it framed and yes, it did cheer her up - so I am happy! |

I hope his owner likes this portrait of her lovely old horse as much as I have enjoyed drawing it. |
