Pastel painting of a "paintaloosa" foal on pastel paper. Taken from original photograph by Janice Mills at Corvid Stud.
On a visit to the Corvid Quarter-horse and Appaloosa Stud in Pearcedale (Victoria, Australia), I had my camera with me to take some photos as resource material for future paintings and hopefully commissions.
It was fortunate because as I was walking around I saw a little foal in this cute pose. It was another one of those lucky shots. The sun was bright so the lighting was great. The little guy was standing, as if posing for me. I quickly got a photo before he moved.
After that, the idea for a drawing was a long time in the making. The print out I made of the photo lay in a drawer for nearly 18 months. It has been waiting for me to have the inspiration to make the best of the shot.
I wanted to do something just for me and remembered the foal. I wanted to do a pastel painting and remembered the foal just for my own pleasure - it was now his time.
The drawing was finished very quickly (for me), it only took 2 hours and I am very happy with it. I hasn't been shown yet but I am hopeful that this little guy will melt some hearts.
