Diamond Jim (DJ to his owner) is a beautiful and tall pure bred appaloosa. His owner June Elliott has him at the Corvid Quarter-horse and Appaloosa Stud in Pearcedale, Victoria, Australia. DJ stood and behaved so well whilst I moved around him taking the original photos for his portrait, I took a lot of shots and he was very patient. He is a beautifully trained and bred horse and lovely to watch in action. |

I learned that painting an appaloosa is a lesson in patience whilst working on this commission. The markings are unique for every animal and so every care must be taken to not only capture the personality but also the amazing spots and halos. |
|
The final result has been that everyone came out of this experience very happy. The painting is one of my best works and everyone who has seen the portrait in person has loved it. What more could I ask for? |
