Australian Guild of Realist Artists Membership, 2010-2011Issued on Thursday, 29 July 2010 The Australian Guild of Realist Artists (AGRA) is a prestigious guild of some of the finest artists in Australia. Membership is an honour and privilege and they only accept artists of high enough standard to be accepted as members. The Application StorySince restarting my fine art career about five years ago, I have gradually joined three very fine guilds in an effort to learn how to better my fine art methods. The support gained from being with experienced and like-minded artists has given me the courage to not only improve my skills but to broaden my horizons to areas that I would not have approached before. I am now regularly creating artworks in oils, acrylic, water colour, pastel and inks. I have even created a couple of sculptures, which is something that I had not done since college. I have artworks on display at three different venues and am now being invited to exhibit. In the plan of continually improving my artworks and learning from the best mentors, during 2010 I have been looking into to joining two new associations. They are more directly aimed at the two focal areas of my work, being "impressionist" style painting and pastels. They are also a style and mediums that I not only enjoy the most, but seem to have a natural aptitude with so feel I should pursue more vigorously. The most recent approved application is to the highly regarded Australian Guild of Realist Artists. AGRA only accepts artists of a suitable standard so I sent them my web address so that they could look through my works at their leisure. It was with much pleasure and honour that I received an email inviting me to become a full member of the Association. I can not really put into words how excited and nervous I am about this step in my fine art career. I am looking forward to being introduced to other members in the near future and having the opportunity to exhibit with many artists that I admire. I hope to be writing about how I do in the AGRA in coming months and want to thank everyone from the Berwick Art Society who encouraged me to be brave and apply for membership. Janice Mills |
