McClelland Guild of Artists Yearly Assessment, 2009Issued on Saturday, 03 October 2009 Mcclelland Guild of Artists have an Assessment Day every year for members to bring work in to be displayed and assessed in front of all members and guests of their end of year meeting. The works are assessed by a demonstrating artist. This year the assessment was performed by Glenn Hoyle. McClelland Guild of Artists Yearly AssessmentGlenn Hoyle is a highly respected teacher and has ability to analyse and communicate the painting process, having impressive skills in oils, watercolour and pastels. He has been painting and teaching for many years. Glenn is one of the most talented equine artists I have ever seen. His work in the Camberwell Art Show a few years ago was so beautiful I cried when I saw it. The rendering of the horse's coat, the lighting, the colour, it was all so perfect! Since my first love is painting and drawing horses, and it has been all my life, to have Glenn even look at my work was a huge honour and what a terrific pleasure it was to have someone you admire give you invaluable insight on how to improve your work. His help with my latest work "They're Racing!" has taken it from good to very good and I am much happier with it. I have since had many people say that they particularly like the painting "They're Racing!" and this topped all that off so nicely. This experience backs up my feeling that no matter how scared you are about beginning to display your art, you have to face the fear and do it. The feedback is invaluable and sometimes when it comes as encouragement, you feel amazing. It helps give you the courage to continue through the times when things aren't going so well, because you know that somewhere along the line, another one of these gems will come your way. Thank you Glenn for the precious gift you have given me and for your well considered and thoughtful comments. Janice Mills |
