Pastel drawing on charcoal coloured pastel paper of a family pet (dog) called Rocky. This is a commissioned work by the pet's owner. Rocky was 12 years old at the time of the commission. |
His owner Narelle loves him dearly. She commissioned a portrait of him to keep as a memento as he is very old and frail now. It has been my pleasure to bring out the character of this lovely old dog for his owner. |
The photograph has been modified by including the whole of Rocky's ear and dropping his body so that his head is more of the centre point in the work. I also added a hint of a little more hair under his head towards his chest to balance out the composition. |
I chose a charcoal coloured card for the drawing to complement the warm yellows in Rocky's coat, and pink in his tongue. |
Narelle was shown a shot of the work in progress to make sure she was happy with the way it was progressing. She was absolutely thrilled and wanted an email copy of it to send off to all her relatives. She is equally happy with the final result. I hope it helps her recall all the happy days spent with her beautiful dog. |
