Pastel portrait of two dogs owned by a local of the Pearcedale (Victoria, Australia) area. The painting is made up from two individual photos which were merged to the one pic to create this final version. |
I often stop and chat to people in the neighbourhood whilst out for walks. They usually have their dogs with them and since my beautiful Rastas died a few years ago, any chance I get to pet a beautiful dog is always used. |
Gwen owns two lively little dogs with very different personalities. During one walk I mentioned that I would love to do an artwork of them and she was only too pleased to supply plenty of photos for me to scan. |
From the two best photos I merged the dogs to created a nice pic with them both looking their best and all of the background removed. Gwen then approved the layout and I began work on the drawing. |
At the halfway point Gwen was sent a proof via email to check that things were going to her satisfaction. She was then emailed a proof of the final version and given a hard copy of her modified photo and the final artwork. |
The only thing left after that was for her to collect her artwork. That was an especially nice occasion. I don't always have emotional reactions to my work, but I was really very surprised at this client's face when she saw the finished work for the first time. It was very humbling for me because it was obvious that she absolutely loved it. She even later had both the artwork and the proof photo framed and called in to show them to me! |
That is part of the joy in being an artist - seeing the reaction of people to what I do and creating that magic moment. |
